UVic English alum Kalea Furmanek-Raposo (Honours BA 2023, MA 2025) has won the Founders’ Circle Award at the Victorian Studies Association of Western Canada conference (held in Regina 24-25 May) for her conference paper titled “From Villette to Atalanta: 19th-Century Craft Culture and 21st-Century Exhibits.”

Former UVic English Honours and MA student Joe Diemer has won the Lieutenant Governor's Silver Medal (Non-Thesis) for their graduating MA essay, “Dialling in to Eternity: Margaret Gatty and the Book of Sundials”, as well as their academic excellence, and record of prizes, awards, and publications.

Congratulations to UVic English professor Rebecca Gagan for winning a 2025 3M Teaching Fellowship! She is one of only ten recipients nationwide. The 3M National Teaching Fellowship is Canada's most prestigious recognition of excellence in educational leadership and teaching at the post-secondary level.

Dr. Alison Chapman (ENSH) has been elected as one of just 101 Fellows across Canada to join the society as part of the class of 2023.

What Can You Do with Your Degree in English? Wednesday, February 13, 4:30-6:30pm CLE A202 Six happily employed UVic alumni with degrees in English will talk about their career experiences. Topics covered will include everything from negotiating a contract to student loan forgiveness program. Sectors represented include the BC public service, the hospitality industry, politics, non-profits, graphic design and branding, and the public libraries.
